Sean Dare`s Affinity adds a new Dimension to the Knightsbridge Portfolio

August 02, 2010

A new dimension has been added to the Knightsbridge Furniture portfolio with the addition of Affinity, a collection of upholstered modular seating for applications across the healthcare and commercial communities.

Developed by the Knightsbridge design team in conjunction with award-winning furniture innovator Sean Dare, Affinity is based upon interlinking modular units which allow the creation of an infinite variety of customer-specific arrangements, including linear, angular and island layouts. Bespoke space planning is provided by the Knightsbridge ‘Signature’ service, and the company’s specialist advisors are trained to tailor every part of the process, from fabric selection and cost control to layout design and on-site product positioning.

Seat options in the Affinity system include single or twin units which are available armless or fitted with a diversity of arm configurations, all with optional tablet tops. The extra-broad arms are also intended as additional seating platforms – useful for short-term users and for the less mobile.

Affinity seating works with linear and corner table linking units to create a collection of many perspectives and enhanced longevity. As the use of space changes, so can the Affinity system be adapted to meet different needs: island arrangements can be separated to create linear or angular layouts, for example, whilst formal lines set against the wall can be reconfigured to fill empty areas with sociable groupings of mixed seating and tables.

Running parallel to this versatility is the Affinity style, with the presentation including features like twin needle stitching detail, comfortable domed seats and either single or two-tone fabric upholstery. Knightsbridge also offers Affinity in vinyl for hygiene-critical areas, with a generous 150mm space underneath ensuring access for effective cleaning.

All exposed wood – including skids, arm tablets and table tops – is available in Natural Beech, Oak, Cherry, Bleached Beech, Walnut or Wenge finishes. As an option to the standard timber skids, Affinity can also be fitted with legs in polished tubular steel.

A keen advocate for collaboration between designers and manufacturers in order to raise the profile of British furniture design, Sean Dare launched his own design consultancy last year, and his collections were acclaimed at the recent Milan Furniture Fair. He favours traditional methods of craftsmanship and the use of local skill-sets, which chimes with the Knightsbridge Furniture heritage: from its manufacturing base in Yorkshire, Knightsbridge has been designing and supplying furniture for over 70 years.
