Ascom presents cost efficient wireless communication for healthcare

July 26, 2010

Ascom Wireless Solutions, the leading supplier of on-site wireless communications have introduced VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) to their teleCARE IP solution, a system already established in hospitals and care homes around the world.

Originally, Ascom teleCARE IP was created as a communication platform upon which new
innovations could be built, combining the full suite of traditional nurse call functionality and the power
of IP technology. With the addition of VoIP, it is anticipated that the new voice communication features
will have a positive impact on the everyday tasks staff in the healthcare sector face, leading to
efficiency and cost effectiveness.

Jan Ringenier, Product Manager at Ascom explains, “The new VoIP solution delivers practical
functions direct to those who need them most. For example, nurses can use Direct Call In, noisetriggered
Acoustic Monitoring and a Listen-In function to discreetly monitor and talk to their patients.
With the new voice functionality, communication can be maintained without the nurse having to
physically visit a room or the patient to leave his or her bed. We are sure these new features will make
a significant contribution to staff efficiency and standards of patient and resident care wherever they
are applied.”

The hospital or care home environment demands that communication between staff and from staff to
patients or residents is carried out on the move; in this case by means of Ascom DECT or VoWiFi
handsets. All communication is done over the LAN using VoIP and SIP clients. Using the LAN also
makes it possible to connect multiple sites to one large united site.
Mark Leppard is Sales Manager at Ascom UK states “the introduction of VoIP to our solutions is a
great opportunity for us to strengthen our business within the healthcare segment. We already have a
presence with our existing range of products and solutions
